Avio Mountain
The Municipality of Avio boasts a vast mountainous territory. The first human traces date back to the Middle and Upper Paleolithic and Mesolithic ages, and prove the presence of humans at high altitudes during the last glaciations and the period subsequent to them when the ice melted.
Hikers may still travel along these ancient routes in an uncontaminated environment between malghe, pastures and ancient woods. In the malghe of Trattesoli, Piano delle Ceneri, Artillone, Campo and Colma Zocchi di Sopra, milking occurs daily to produce cheeses which are the flagship of the Avio territory: Casat del Baldo and “Affogato in vino Enantio”.
Thanks to its location between the Vallagarina and Lake Garda, nature transformed Monte Baldo in a natural botanical garden.
Monte Baldo can be reached from Avio crossing the Valle dei Molini and reaching the location of Madonna della Neve.
Mountain bike enthusiasts can ride up the mountain using the cableway of Malcesine-Monte Baldo, which also allows the transport of bikes at high altitude. During winter season it is possible to enjoy alpine skiing and snowboarding in the slopes of Prà Alpesina, La Polsa and San Valentino, while alpine and Nordic skiing are possible on the Brentonico Plateau.
These peaks were the defensive shield of the Italian border during the Secondo World War; the trenches and observation points are still visible and can be crossed by following the "Path of Peace".
